In 2007 Danya travelled to Tanzania to do research with a group of young men who were living and working on the streets of Dar es Salaam. This experience changed her life. Back in Vancouver, Urban Project was created out of late night conversations and brainstorming sessions between Danya, Leah, Jay, Elisa and Greg. We created a small, not-for-profit organization that could support these young people in pursuing projects that are important to them. Taking our lead from those we support means that our activities evolve over time. We’ve set up housing. We’ve paid school fees. We’ve produced a hip hop album, which some of the guys continue to sell on the streets of Dar. More and more, we’re investing in small-scale work opportunities that allow young people to grow the money they make over time. 

We operate on the 100% model. That means every dollar we raise goes directly to those we support in Tanzania. And, we’re a registered charity. Your tax receipt is in the mail.
